8 Day Northern Circuit Route Overview

The 8-day Northern Circuit Route is one of the best options for climbers seeking high success rates, excellent acclimatization, and minimal crowds. This route circles around the remote northern slopes of Kilimanjaro, offering unmatched panoramic views and wilderness experience.
Although slightly shorter than the 9-day option, it still provides very good acclimatization and is suitable for most climbers who want a balance between time and success.

8-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2,100m) → Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m)
Distance: 7 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest

The trek begins through lush rainforest with gradual ascent. Wildlife sightings are common.
Overnight: Mti Mkubwa Camp

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m) → Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)
Distance: 8 km
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Habitat: Moorland

The trail climbs into moorland with open views and volcanic formations.
Overnight: Shira 1 Camp

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) → Shira 2 Camp (3,840m)

The trail climbs steadily toward Kibo Hut, preparing for the summit attempt.
