The 6-day Rongai Route is the only trail that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the northern side, near the Kenyan border. It is known for its dry climate, remote wilderness, and gradual ascent.
This itinerary is shorter and slightly more challenging due to limited acclimatization time. However, it is a great option for trekkers looking for a quieter route with a steady climb and high chances of good weather.
Day 1: Rongai Gate (1,950m) → Simba Camp (2,600m)
Distance: 8 km

After celebrating at the summit, descend to Kibo Hut briefly, then continue down via Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate.
This is the longest and most demanding day of the trek.
✔ Time-Efficient – Ideal for climbers with limited time to summit Mount Kilimanjaro
✔ Gradual & Easier Trail – One of the most gradual ascent routes, less steep than others
✔ Drier Climate – Northern side receives less rainfall, making trekking conditions more stable
✔ Less Crowded – Quieter and more remote compared to popular routes like Machame
✔ Scenic Wilderness – Offers unique views of the Kenyan plains and untouched landscapes
⚠️ Note: Less acclimatization time → lower summit success rate than the 7-day option
Best for: Fit trekkers, experienced hikers, and those looking for a quieter route with a shorter schedule.
